FRISCO — Sophomore Fabiola Arriaga was named Southland Conference Player of the Month for the second time this season, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Arriaga posted a 73.33 stroke average, recorded top-10 finishes at the Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate (March 16-18) and Anuenue Spring Break Classic (March 26-27) and helped lead the Roadrunners to top-five performances in the two tournaments.
The Torreon, Mexico, native shot a 218 that included a round of 70, her low for the month, to tie for third and help UTSA win the Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate. The victory gave the Roadrunners a program-record three for the season.
She then tied for sixth place at this week's Anuenue Spring Break Classic and helped UTSA place fifth in a field that featured five teams ranked in golfstat.com’s Top 25.
Arriaga recorded 13 birdies and lowered her team-leading stroke average for the season to 74.56.
She previously was honored for her play during the month of November after winning The Alamo Invitational. It also marks the second consecutive month a UTSA player has taken home the award, as senior Summer Batiste was February's recipient.
UTSA will be back in action in two-and-a-half weeks when it defends its Southland Championship. The three-day tournament tees off on Monday, April 16.
