FRISCO — Senior Summer Batiste was named February's Southland Conference Player of the Month, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Batiste recorded a 74.17 stroke average and was UTSA’s top finisher in each of its first two tournaments of the spring season.
The Spring native picked up the first tournament victory of her career on Tuesday at the Islanders Classic (Feb. 27-28) and helped the Roadrunners win two events in the same season for the first time in program history after they also claimed The Alamo Invitational crown in November. Batiste improved her score each round of the tournament and shot a final-round 71 to vault into a tie with teammate Taylor Newlin atop the leaderboard. Her 54-hole score of 220 (75-74-71) was her best since a 214 at the 2010 Northern Migration Invitational, which UTSA also won.
Batiste opened the spring with a 225 (75-72-78) and was the Roadrunners’ highest finisher (t-43rd) at the UCF Challenge (Feb. 12-14), which featured several of the nation’s best squads.
UTSA will be back in action in two-and-a-half weeks at the Insperity Lady Jaguars Intercollegiate in Augusta, Ga. The three-day event gets underway on March 16.
