NORMAN, Okla. — Sophomore Taylor Newlin tied for 26th place to lead UTSA to a 15th-place finish at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic, which concluded on Tuesday at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.
Newlin finished at 10-over-par 226 (75-73-78) to lead the Roadrunners to a 54-hole score of 920 (314-301-305).
Sophomore Fabiola Arriaga again showed a two-stroke improvement and finished with a 231 (79-77-75) to tie for 45th. The Torreon, Mexico, native shot even par 14 times in her final round and recorded a birdie on No. 5.
Senior Summer Batiste fired a team-high eight birdies for the tournament en route to a 232 (80-77-75) and that was good for a 51st-place tie. The Spring native fired birds on Nos. 5, 11 and 14.
Junior Paola Valerio tied for 55th with a 233 (80-74-77), while senior Shannon Jungman carded a 234 (80-77-77) and tied for 62nd.
Host Oklahoma took the team title with an 878 (293-285-300) and was led by individual champion Anne Tangay, who finished at six-under-par 210 (72-67-71).
UTSA returns to the links in two weeks when it hosts the third annual Alamo Invitational at Briggs Ranch Golf Club.
