– Freshman Paola Valerio turned in a day-one scorecard of 149 (76-73) on Monday and she trails Sam Houston State’s Shelby Hardy by three strokes in the individual standings following the opening two rounds of the Husky Invitational.
The Roadrunners fired a two-round team total of 617 and stand in second place. Tournament host Houston Baptist will take a three-shot advantage over the Birds into Tuesday's final round.
Senior Shelly Martinez stands in fifth place following her rounds of 78 and 76 (154), while sophomore Bruna Spengler is two strokes behind her teammate and tied for seventh at 156. Meanwhile, sophomore Summer Batiste became the fourth UTSA player to record a top-10 showing on the day after posting a 158 (75-83), which was good for 10th place.
The final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday.
