UTSA to conclude road trip on Tuesday night at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will conclude its current five-game road trip on Tuesday night when it travels to the Coastal Bend to take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for the third time this season. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Chapman Field.

In the first meeting between the two squads back on Feb. 22, UTSA (21-11) rebounded from its first defeat of the season to take down the Islanders, 8-3, on the first day of the Kleberg Bank College Classic in Corpus Christi. C.J. Pickering led the the Birds' offense with a 2-for-5 showing at the plate with a double and two runs batted in.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (17-17) avenged the early-season loss on March 27 with a 6-1 victory. The Islanders leadoff trio of Brandon Tierney, Jordan Lee and Kyle Danford combined to go 8-of-13 with four runs scored and three RBIs, while starting pitcher Dalton D’Spain earned his first win of the season after allowing just one run in five innings of work.

The Roadrunners, who have won three of the last four matchups, own a 28-22 advantage in the all-time series.

UTSA enters the Tuesday tilt following a Conference USA series victory at Tulane. The Roadrunners book-ended the set with complete game victories on the hill from Brock Hartson and Justin Anderson. Offensively, first baseman Mike Warren extended his career-high consecutive reached base streak to 26 games. The senior first baseman from San Antonio has reached base in all but one game (Feb. 22 vs. BYU) this season. RJ Perucki extended his career-best hitting streak to 13 games and he became the third UTSA player this season (John Welborn, Jesse Baker are the other two) to have a hitting streak of at least 10 games.

Meanwhile, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi saw its seven-game winning streak snapped over the weekend, as it lost the final two contests of three-game home set to Stephen F. Austin. However, the Islanders' offense remained potent during the series, as they have averaged 10 runs per game over their last four contests.
