UTSA track & field adds Texas state champion to signing class

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox has added Taylor Armstrong, a two-time Texas state champion from DeSoto, to the 2019 signing class.

Armstrong has won a pair of state crowns as a member of DeSoto High School's 4x200-meter relay team during her prep career, helping the Eagles capture back-to-back Class 6A State Championships as a freshman and sophomore. She won the 300-meter hurdles in 43.46 seconds to help DeSoto run away with the 2018 Region I-6A team title as a junior. Armstrong eventually finished second in that event at the state meet, while helping the 4x200m relay to a bronze medal in Austin.

"Taylor Armstrong is going to be a great addition to the Roadrunner Family," Fox said. "She has been a standout for one of the state's powerhouse programs since she was a freshman, and she's recently developed into one of the top hurdlers in the state. We can't wait to see the positive impact she's going to have on our program."

Armstrong owns a personal-best time of 43.15 in the 300m hurdles, which she turned in while claiming the district title as a junior. She also has PRs of 12.23 in the 100m, 24.65 in the 200m and 58.27 in the 400m.

Armstrong is the eighth announced member of UTSA's 2019 signing class, as she joins women's signees Vera Chinedu, Ana Carolin Da Silva, Natasha Purchas, Zoie Reyna and Maren Wilms and men's signees Oquendo Bernard and Jack Turner.
