Douglas, Perez highlight UTSA action on final day of Charlie Thomas Invitational

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Andre Douglas won the triple jump and Vincent Perez grabbed gold in the weight throw to highlight Saturday action for the UTSA track & field teams at the Charlie Thomas Invitational at Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.

The men's team turned in six podium finishes during the two-day meet and finished in a tie with UT Arlington for third place in the team standings with a partial squad competing.

Douglas won the triple jump for the third time this season and the second in two tries in College Station. He skipped to a personal-best mark of 15.67 meters (51-5) for a comfortable finish ahead of Cincinnati's Andre Wright (15.01m/49-3).

A native of Jamaica, Douglas bettered his previous PR of 15.59m (51-1 ¾) established two weeks ago at the FasTrak Invitational. The sophomore, who ranks second on UTSA's all-time performers list in the triple, also leaped to a 10th-place measurement of 6.88m (22-7) in the long jump on Saturday.

Perez registered his second victory in the weight throw this season with a personal-best mark of 19.49 meters (63-11 ½). The senior from San Antonio Marshall High School, who also has a pair of runner-up showings in the weight throw this year, improved his previous PR of 18.67m (61-3) posted in a winning performance at the FasTrak Invitational two weeks ago. With today's effort, Perez moved into the No. 2 spot on the school's all-time performers list behind his older brother, Victor (19.63m).

Patrick Prince secured a silver medal in the 60-meter hurdles. The senior All-American crossed in 7.90 seconds for second behind Texas' John Burt (7.83) en route to his third straight top-three finish in the event.

Luca Chatham raced to a runner-up finish in the 800m with a 1:51.24 clocking. The senior from Dallas finished just .06 seconds behind the winner, Houston's Cameron Laverty, who crossed in 1:51.18. Chatham also posted a season-best 8:46.22 to take 10th in the 3,000m.

Davante Edwards cleared a season-best height of 2.05m (6-8 ¾) to take third place in the high jump, while Jamal Anderson picked up the bronze medal in the triple jump with a career best-tying mark of 14.49m (47-6 ½).

The women also brought a partial squad to Aggieland for the team's fourth meet of the indoor campaign.

Maia Campbell registered a pair of top-five finishes in the throws on Saturday. The Converse Judson High School product finished fourth in the weight throw with a career-best mark of 18.13 meters (59-5 ¾), which moved her into the third spot on UTSA's all-time performers list. The junior also finished fifth in the shot put with a 14.35m (47-1) effort, her second-best mark of the season in that event.

Caroline Bellows also posted a personal best on Saturday in the pole vault. The senior from George West cleared 3.72 meters (12-2 ½) to place sixth and notch a PR for the second straight meet.

On the track, Amber Boyd recorded a pair of personal bests in the distances. The sophomore clocked a 5:02.14 for 10th place in the mile and later ran 10:35.59 for 12th in the 3,000m
