Women’s Tennis opens C-USA Championships with No. 9 seed Southern Miss

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's tennis team has earned a No. 8 seed in the 2019 Air Force Reserve Conference USA Women's Tennis Championships, hosted by Rice in Houston, and will face off with No. 9 seed Southern Miss on Thursday, the league announced on Monday night. 
 
The seeding is based upon the latest ITA rankings, with UTSA posting an 11-12 record in 2019 under first-year head coach Ki Kroll. The Roadrunners have faced two teams in C-USA in the regular season, posting a 5-2 win over Southern Miss on March 14 and a 4-3 win at North Texas on March 31. 
 
UTSA has posted a 62-63 record in singles and a 26-30 record in doubles in 2019. The Roadrunners have been led in singles by four11-match winners, including Laura Cabrera, Kylee Kato, Mariah Plauth and Jasmin Starr. Senior Charleen Tiwari has six singles wins, with freshman Sophie Omoworare earning five singles wins and Catalina Cabrique posting five. Junior Diya Menon has earned a pair of singles winners. 
 
In doubles, Kato and Starr sport a 10-5 record, with Omoworare and Tiwari charting an 8-5 record.
