UTSA signs Norwegian U20 pentathlon champion

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox has added Sigrid Kleive, the reigning Norwegian U20 pentathlon champion, to the Roadrunners' 2019 signing class.

Kleive, a native of Aalesund, Norway, won the pentathlon with a personal-best 3,753 points at the 2019 Norwegian U20 Championships in February in Sandnes. With that point total, she currently is ranked 33rd on the world junior list.

Earlier this indoor season, Kleive cleared a career best 1.75 meters (5-8 ¾) in the high jump to win the regional championship in January in Ulsteinvik and she topped that same height in early February for runner-up honors at the Norwegian Championships in Haugesund.

Outdoors, Kleive scored a personal best 4,985 points to finish sixth in the heptathlon at the 2018 Nordic U20 Combined Events Championships in Jessheim. She also was runner-up in the long jump with a career-long leap of 6.02m (19-9) and second in the javelin with a PR throw of 44.29m (145-3) at the 2018 Norwegian U20 Championships in Oslo. At the 2018 Norwegian U20 in Overhalla, she won the long jump with a mark of 5.70m (18-8 ¼) and the javelin with a 43.23m (141-10) measurement.

"We're thrilled to announce that Sigrid Kleive is now a member of the Roadrunner Family," Fox said. "She is one of the top junior multi-eventers in Europe and she's also posted some of the top marks in Norway in the high jump, long jump and javelin. Her signing continues the momentum we've built for a very strong recruiting class and she will have an immediate impact on our program once she arrives."

Kleive is the 13th announced member of UTSA's 2019 class, as she joins women's signees Taylor Armstrong, Vera Chinedu, Ana Carolin Da Silva, Natasha Purchas, Zoie Reyna, Amaya Scott and Maren Wilms and men's signees Jayton Acosta, Oquendo Bernard, Joel McFarlane, Jack Turner, Harrison Wade.
