UTSA signs Angel Robles

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox announced Tuesday that he has added Angel Robles, a state qualifier in the shot put, to the Roadrunners' 2019 signing class.

A standout thrower for Humble Summer Creek High School near Houston, Robles unleashed a personal-best mark of 59-6 to finish fourth in the shot put at the Class 6A State Championships last month in Austin. That performance came after posting a 58-10 measurement to earn the bronze medal at the Region II-6A meet on April 27. He also won the district title and claimed gold at the area meet with a 56-5 mark as a senior.

"We're thrilled to welcome Angel Robles to the Roadrunner Family," Fox said. "He has developed into one of the top shot putters in the highest classification in the state of Texas, and we think he has all the tools necessary to continue that growth at the collegiate level. We can't wait for Angel to get to campus."

Also a starter on the offensive line for the Bulldogs' football team, Robles finished second at the Rice Victor Lopez Classic with a mark of 56-1 ¾ and was seventh at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays with a 55-8 ½ effort this March. As a junior, he was the District 21-6A runner-up and also finished fourth in the discus.

Robles is the 17th announced member of UTSA's 2019 class, as he joins men's signees Jayton Acosta, Oquendo Bernard, Caleb Brandon, Joel McFarlane, Grant Szalek, Jack Turner, Harrison Wade and women's signees Taylor Armstrong, Vera Chinedu, Ana Carolin Da Silva, Ingeborg Gruenwald, Sigrid Kleive, Natasha Purchas, Zoie Reyna, Amaya Scott and Maren Wilms.
