Cross Country opens 2019 at UIW Opener

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA cross country season will kick off on Friday night in the UIW Opener, slated for Classic Elites Soccer Complex at McAllister Park in San Antonio. 
 
The women open the event at 8:30 p.m. with a 4K, while the men will run a 6K and will start at 8:50 p.m. UTSA will be joined by UTRGV, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas State, Our Lady of the Lake, Trinity and Texas Luteran. 

The Roadrunners return several from 2018, including men's runners senior Omar Bekdache, Dominic Cavazos, JD Corona, Matthew David, Caleb Devereaux, Garrett Fowler, Marcus Guajardo, Cameron Hudson, Zack Kovar, Martin Luevano, Josh Rodriguez, Peter Sepulveda and Jake Smith. Freshmen Elliot Moran (Exeter, England) and Harrison Wade (Sydney, Australia) are set to make their collegiate debuts. 
 
On the women's side, the Roadrunners return sophomore Abby Balli, junior Amber Boyd, senior Sarah Estrada, senior Olivia Flores, senior Coleen Gilbert, senior Gabby Gonzales, sophomore Briana Gonzalez, sophomore Brooke Lomax, sophomore Marissa Martinez, sophomore Chloe Munoz, senior Rian Rodriguez and sophomore Sofia Salinas. Freshman Zoienna Reyna is set to make her NCAA debut. 
 
UTSA will venture across town on Saturday, Sept. 14 for its second meet of the season, the UIW Invitational at Live Oak Park. The Roadrunners will then travel to Chicago for the Lakefront Invitational on Sept. 28 before returning to the Lone Star State to compete in the Arturo Barrios Invitational in College Station, Texas on Oct. 29. 
 
The Conference USA Championships is slated for Bowling Green, Ky., on Nov. 2. The NCAA South Central Regional is in Fayetteville, Ark., on Nov. 15 and the NCAA Championships are in Terre Haute, Ind., on Nov. 23.
