Cross Country to venture to Chicago for Lakefront Invitational

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA cross country teams will venture north to Chicago to participate in the Lakefront Invitational, hosted by Loyola at Montrose Harbor. The 42nd annual event will take place on Saturday, with the women running a 5K that starts at 10:50 a.m. and the men set for an 8K that is slated to start at 11:20 a.m. 
 
The Roadrunners have run a pair of meets in San Antonio, both hosted by UIW, to open up the fall schedule. UTSA's women finished third in the UIW Opener on Aug. 30 and second in the UIW Invitational on Sept. 14. The men placed sixth in the UIW Opener and third in the UIW Invitational. 
 
UTSA junior Amber Boyd (Copperas Cove, Texas) and senior Colleen Gilbert (Austin, Texas) have highlighted the women's finishers in the first two meets of 2019. Gilbert placed second at the UIW Invitational, with Boyd earning a sixth-place finish. Marissa Martinez (San Antonio), Briana Gonzalez (San Antonio), Abby Balli (Pasadena, Calif.) and Brooke Lomax (Katy, Texas) all placed in the top 20 last time out at the UIW Invitational. 
 
The men were paced last time out at the UIW Invite by senior Martin Luevano (Boerne, Texas), who finished 15th, with Matthew David (Lahoma, Okla.) earning a 20th-place finish. In the UIW Opener, Josh Rodriguez (Boerne, Texas) led UTSA's finishers with a 35th-place finish. Omar Bekdache (Cedar Park, Texas), Zack Kovar (Austin, Texas) and David each finishing in the top 50.
