UTSA to tee off season Monday at Minnesota Invitational

SAN ANTONIO — The two-time defending Conference USA champion UTSA women's golf team will tee off the 2019-20 season on Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 9-10, at the Minnesota Invitational, which will be held at Prestwick Golf Club (par 72/6,297 yards) in Woodbury, Minn.

The Roadrunners will compete against East Carolina, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Long Beach State, Louisville, Miami (Fla.), Minnesota, Missouri, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, San Francisco, San Jose State and Virginia Tech.

The field will play 36 holes on Monday and the final round is slated for Tuesday. Live scoring will be available at http://results.golfstat.com//public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=participants&tid=18217.

Third-year head coach Summer Batiste, who has been named C-USA Coach of the Year in each of the last two seasons, welcomes back four letterwinners from last year's team that captured the program's second straight conference championship.

Ana Gonzalez headlines the list of veterans. The junior from Monterrey, Mexico, won a pair of individual crowns last season, including the C-USA title to help lead the Roadrunners to their fourth overall league championship. The first-team all-conference selection, who competed in the Pan American Games last month in Peru, set a school record with a 73.32 stroke average in 2018-19 and she is the current program record-holder for career scoring average.

Hannah Holzmann is back for her sophomore season after posting a 75.03 average in 11 tournaments a year ago. The San Antonio native finished as runner-up in her collegiate debut last fall at the Lady Maxwell Invitational and advanced to match play at the U.S. Women's Amateur last month.

The program's lone senior, Madison Kidd, played in all 12 events and registered a 76.12 average last season. A native of Lake Jackson, Texas, she posted a career-best fourth-place finish to help UTSA win the Texas State Invitational in February, one of three team titles for the Roadrunners in 2018-19.

Sophomore Katia Mexsen also returns after appearing in six tournaments and turning in a 78.59 average as a true freshman. She recorded her top finish of 20th at the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational last October.

A pair of newcomers will look to make an impact this season. Nicole Polivchak is a junior transfer from Northern Colorado who won the Polish Ladies Amateur and Polish Ladies Match play titles this year. Camryn Carreon, a freshman from Incarnate Word High School in San Antonio, is a two-time San Antonio Express-News Player of the Year honoree.
