COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- UTSA cross country joined 32 teams in the Arturo Barrios Invitational, hosted on Saturday by Texas A&M at the Dale Watts Cross Country Course.
The Roadrunners were led by junior Amber Boyd (Copperas Cove, Texas), who finished 95th with a time of 22:22.2 in the 6,000 meters. The men were paced by junior Matthew David, a native of Lahoma, Okla., who earned a 138th-place finish with a 26:07.8 clocking for the 8k race.
Overall, the women finished 24th and the men finished 25th.
The UTSA women also saw senior Gabby Gonzalez (Uvalde, Texas) place 161st with a time of 23:18.2, while Briana Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas) finished 181st with a time of 23:38.5. Sophomore Marissa Martinez (San Antonio, Texas) finished 200th with a time of 24:01.2. Senior Sarah Estrada (Boerne, Texas) placed 218th, with sophomore Abby Balli (Pasadena, Texas) finishing 220th and Brooke Lomax (Katy, Texas) placing 226th.
The UTSA men had four top-200 finishers, led by David. Senior Martin Luevano (Boerne, Texas) placed 159th with a time of 26:22.4, while senior Pedro Sepulveda (Laredo, Texas) placed 160th at 26:24.6. Sophomore Jake Smith (Yuma, Ariz.) placed 179th with a time of 26:42.9. JD Corona (Rio Grande, City, Texas) ran a 27:55.6 to place 212th, while senior Garrett Fowler (Kingswood, Texas) ran a 28:40.3 to finish 221st.
The Roadrunners will return to action with the Conference USA Championships, slated for Nov. 2 in Bowling Green, Ky., hosted by Western Kentucky.
