McCormick named to FWAA Midseason Watch List

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA tailback Sincere McCormick has been named to the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) Midseason Watch List for the Freshman All-American Team and Shaun Alexander/Stand Together Freshman of the Year Award, the organization announced Wednesday.

McCormick, a true freshman from Converse Judson High School, is one of six running backs on the list. The 5-9, 200-pounder leads the Roadrunners with 567 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns on 97 carries. In just his fifth collegiate game on Oct. 5, he gashed UTEP for 189 yards on 22 totes, including a 51-yard TD dash, to break the school record for rushing yards in a game. McCormick, who collected Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week accolades following his record-setting performance against the Miners, broke loose for a season-long run of 54 yards for one of his two scores against Baylor. He also has caught 13 passes for 106 yards, including a long of 33 yards in the Rice victory.

McCormick leads all C-USA freshmen and ranks fifth overall in the league in rushing yards and rushing yards per game (81.0). He is averaging 5.85 yards per rush, which stands fourth in the league, and his six total touchdowns are tops among the conference's freshmen.

Nationally, McCormick ranks third among FBS freshmen in rushing yards and rushing yards per game and he stands behind only five other freshmen in rushing TDs. He ranks in the top 50 among all FBS players in all three categories.

McCormick needs only 41 yards to move into the top five on UTSA's single-season rushing yardage chart and he is within range of the program's single-season standard of 1,042 set by Jarveon Williams — also a former Judson Rockets standout — in 2015.

UTSA has had two freshman All-Americans in its history. In 2016, linebacker Josiah Tauaefa was selected to the FWAA Freshman All-American Team, while place-kicker Jared Sackett was honored by USA TODAY the following season.

The Roadrunners are off this weekend before returning to action on Saturday, Nov. 2, when they travel to College Station to face Texas A&M. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. at Kyle Field and the nonconference matchup will be televised on the SEC Network.
