Boyd, Wade lead Roadrunners at C-USA Championships

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Conference USA Championships, hosted by Western Kentucky on Saturday morning. 
 
The men, running the 8,000 meters, finished eighth overall in the 11-team field. The women, competing in the 5,000 meters, placed 10th. 
 
The men were paced by Wade, a native of Sydney, Australia, who placed 15th with a 24:43.6 time. Senior Martin Luevano (Boerne, Texas) placed 46th with a 26:12.9 time, while sophomore Jake Smith (Yuma, Ariz.) finished 53rd with a 26:26.9 time, while senior Josh Rodriguez (Boerne, Texas) posted a 57th place finish with a 26:38.8 time. Senior Pedro Sepulveda (Laredo, Texas) ran a 26:40.1 to place 59th, while Matthew David (Lahoma, Okla.) finished with a 27:41.3 to place 70th. Junior Zack Kovar (Austin, Texas) placed 72nd with a time of 27:51.0. 
 
The women were led by junior Amber Boyd (Copperas Cove, Texas), who placed 47th with an 18:55.0 run, followed immediately by sophomore Briana Gonzalez (San Antonio), who finished 48th with a 18:59.0 mark. Senior Gabby Gonzales (Uvalde, Texas) ran a 19:26.2 to finish 67th, with sophomore Marissa Martinez (San Antonio) finishing 75th with a 19:46.6. Senior Colleen Gilbert (Austin, Texas) ran a 19:54.6 to finish 77th, while senior Sarah Estrada (Boerne, Texas) placed 80th with a 19:57.2 run. Sophomore Abby Balli (Pasadena, Texas) ran a 20:34.7 to finish 91st. 
 
The NCAA South Central Regional on Nov. 15 is next for the Roadrunners, hosted by Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark.
