SAN ANTONIO – As the new head coach for UTSA baseball, Pat Hallmark's first schedule features 31 games played in the Alamo City.
The 56-game schedule includes 26 of the 31 games being contested at Roadrunner Field. Five games will be played at Nelson W. Wolff Stadium, home of the Milwaukee Brewers Triple-A Affiliate San Antonio Missions.
Opponents represent nine leagues – including four Power Five schools, six conference champions and four NCAA Regional participants from 2019, including one making it to the College World Series.
NON-CONFERENCE WEEKENDS
Quinnipiac | Feb. 14-16
UTSA opens the 2020 slate with a three-game home stand against Quinnipiac. This is the second ever meeting between the two schools on the diamond with the Bobcats holding a 3-1 advantage. The defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament champions competed in the Greenville Regional, finishing with a 30-29 overall mark, including 17-7 in the league.
Alamo Irish Classic | Feb. 20-23
The Roadrunners compete in the 22nd Alamo Irish Classic at Nelson Wolff Stadium. UTSA opens its weekend with Mid-American Conference member Toledo Feb. 20 and 21 before facing the Irish Feb. 22. In the first of two meetings this season, Hallmark leads the Roadrunners against the Cardinals – his former team - in the event finale Feb. 23. This is the first meeting between UTSA and the Rockets. Notre Dame holds a 4-3 advantage over the Roadrunners, however, UTSA holds a 14-10 edge against UIW.
Grambling | Feb. 28-March 1
Grambling, member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, compiled a mark of 27-25 in 2019, including 16-8 in league play. The Tigers finished second in the Western Division of the SWAC and posted the third-best mark in the 10-team league. This is the first meeting between the two schools.
UT Arlington | March 6-8
UTSA travels to Arlington for a three-game series against the Mavericks in the final weekend before conference play. UT Arlington of the Sun Belt Conference holds a 43-30 edge in the series that dates back to March 13, 1993 but the former Southland Conference and Western Athletic Conference foes have not met since March 24, 2013.
CONFERENCE USA HOME SERIES
Charlotte | March 13-15
The 49ers and Roadrunners have met 20 times with each team claiming 10 victories. UTSA took last season's series in Charlotte 2-1. Over the past three seasons they faced off 12 times, including three games in the C-USA Baseball Championship. Charlotte compiled a 21-31-1 overall record and missed the 2019 championship with an 11th-place league mark of 11-18-1. The 49ers are 5-3 in eight previous contests in San Antonio. Both sides enter the campaign with new head coaches.
Marshall | March 27-29
Marshall completed 2019 with a mark of 29-28, including 14-15 in the league, good for sixth. This is the seventh all-time series, with the Roadrunners holding an 11-6 edge, including 6-3 at home. Last season, the teams split the first two games in Huntington, West Virginia, before the rubber game was canceled due to weather.
Rice | April 3-5
UTSA won the season series in 2019, 2-1, improving to 8-23 all-time against the Owls. The two victories matched the previous total in the first 17 meetings in Houston, earning the first-ever road series win for the Roadrunners. Rice finished 26-33 overall and 14-16, a half-game ahead of the Roadrunners for seventh in the league in 2019. The Owls hold a 6-4 advantage in San Antonio.
LA Tech | April 17-19
The Bulldogs took the 2019 series 2-1 in Ruston, Louisiana, finishing third in the league with a 34-24 overall record and 17-13 in C-USA play. UTSA is 5-4 against LA Tech all-time in San Antonio.
UAB | May 8-10
Behind dominant pitching performances in the opener and finale, UTSA claimed a 2-1 edge in the Roadrunners first-ever trip to Birmingham, Alabama, last season, improving to 3-1 all-time UAB. This is the first trip to San Antonio for the Blazers, who missed last season's C-USA Baseball Championship with a league mark of 12-18 and 27-29 overall.
C-USA ROAD SERIES
Middle Tennessee | March 20-22
Week two of conference play takes UTSA to the Volunteer State for a clash with the Blue Raiders, who finished last in the 12-team league with a mark of 18-37 overall and 11-19 in league action. The Roadrunners hold a 13-6 all-time record in the series, including 6-2 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. In the league opener for both sides last season, Middle Tennessee earned victories in the series opener and finale, claiming their first series win over UTSA.
Southern Miss | April 9-11
The Golden Eagles entered San Antonio ranked 27th in the nation last season before the Roadrunners took the first two games in the series, including a three-run ninth to complete the comeback win. Southern Miss salvaged the finale and hold a 15-7 edge with a 7-1 mark in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The Golden Eagles are the defending C-USA Champions and finished the campaign 40-21 overall, 20-10 C-USA, after falling to LSU in the Baton Rouge Regional Final.
WKU | April 24-26
WKU finished fourth in the conference with a 26-29-1 overall mark, including 16-13-1 in the league. After splitting the four games last year, the Hilltoppers hold a 9-7 edge but the Roadrunners are 4-2 in Bowling Green, Kentucky. WKU earned a 2-1 series win over UTSA in San Antonio, before the Roadrunners claimed an elimination-game victory at the conference tournament in May. After grabbing an early 1-0 lead, UTSA trailed by three runs on three-separate occasions before striking for four in the sixth, five in the seventh and two in the eighth for a 15-8 victory.
Florida Atlantic | May 1-3
The Owls claimed the C-USA Regular Season Title with a mark of 41-21 overall and 22-8 against league opponents, besting runner-up Southern Miss by two games. FAU earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament and went 1-2 in the Athens Regional. The Owls improved to 13-7 all-time against UTSA, taking four of the five games, including 2-of-3 in San Antonio and both contests in the C-USA Championship. They ended the Roadrunners season with an 11-4 decision in the semifinals.
Old Dominion | May 14-16
UTSA concludes the regular season with a trip to Norfolk, Virginia. The teams split the four contests in 2019, with Old Dominion taking the final two games during the regular-season series in San Antonio, before the Roadrunners ended the Monarchs' season with a 3-2 triumph in the conference tournament. UTSA holds a slim 10-9 advantage in the all-time series, including 5-4 at Old Dominion.
MIDWEEK HOME CONTESTS
UTSA hosts Texas A&M Corpus Christi March 2, Texas State March 18, UTRGV March 31, Texas Tech at Wolff Stadium April 1, Houston Baptist April 21 and UIW May 5.
MIDWEEK ROAD TRIPS
The Roadrunners kick off the road slate at Texas in Arlington Feb. 18. They travel to Beaumont, Texas for a clash with Lamar Feb. 25, before taking on Texas State in the first of two meetings in San Marcos, Texas March 10. UTSA heads to Corpus Christi March 24 for the finale of the season series with the Islanders. The Roadrunners travel to Houston for a match-up with Houston Baptist on April 7 then battle Baylor in Waco, Texas April 14. A date with Texas State April 28 puts a bow on the 2020 midweek slate.
