WACO – UTSA women's tennis suffered a 5-2 setback at Baylor's Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center Monday.
The Bears grabbed an early 3-0 lead after securing the double's point and the first two single matches.
"I thought we competed very well against a very strong Baylor team," head coach Ki Kroll said. "It was a good first match for us. Our ladies fought hard and we can definitely build from this."
Freshman Keegan McCain netted her first career dual match victory for the Roadrunners. The Austin, Texas native defeated the Bears Daria Rakitskaya in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.
At the No. 1 spot, UTSA's Jasmin Starr and Baylor's Anastasia Kharitonova battled to a three-set tie-breaker. After falling behind in the opening set, Starr rallied and took the final two sets and securing her win 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-6)
UTSA returns to action Jan. 31 at Texas A&M - Corpus Christi. First serve against the Islanders is at 2 p.m.
