SAN ANTONIO — Fresh off winning the Texas State Invitational, the UTSA women's golf team will travel to The Woodlands for the ICON Invitational, which will be held on Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 24-25, at The Woodlands Country Club's Tournament Course (par 72/6,392 yards).
The Roadrunners will line up against host and No. 32-ranked Houston, Kennesaw State, No. 5 Kent State, North Texas, Purdue, SMU, TCU, top-ranked Texas, No. 37 Texas A&M, Texas State, No. 23 Texas Tech, Tulsa and 20th-ranked Virginia Tech. The field will play two rounds on Monday and the final round is slated for Tuesday with 8 a.m. shotgun starts on both days.
UTSA captured its second straight Texas State Invitational team title nearly two weeks ago in Kyle, Texas, the fourth win in the past two seasons and the fifth under third-year head coach Summer Batiste. Behind individual medalist Hannah Holzmann, the Roadrunners carded an 896 to tie with Sam Houston State atop the leaderboard but were declared team champions by virtue of having a lower fifth score in each team's lineup for the final round. Holzmann fired a 3-under-par 213 (74-69-70) to collect her first collegiate win and the sophomore from San Antonio was named Conference USA Golfer of the Week for her performance.
The Roadrunners placed seventh at last year's ICON Invitational after posting an 890. Julie Houston tied for 14th (76-72-72—220) and Ana Gonzalez shared 19th (75-74-72—221) to lead the way.
