Roadrunners defeat North Texas 9-1 in run rule

SAN ANTONIO – For the first time in program history, the Roadrunners defeated the Mean Green 9-1 in a run rule.
 
Through the first two innings, both teams had one hit and left runners on base.
 
North Texas was on the board in the third from two walks, an error and a ground out RBI to lead 1-0. In the bottom of the frame, Hannah Boring opened with a double to center field to reach scoring position. With two outs on the board, Madison Washington hit a two-run homer to center field as the Roadrunners took the lead (2-1).
 
In the fourth, Riley Grunberg hit a solo home run to left center and extend the lead to two (3-1).
 
UTSA increased its lead with two more runs in the fifth. Boring earned a walk and Paige Pacher followed with a single. Celeste Loughman also singled as runners advanced. With two outs, Kindell Brooks reach on a fielding error as Pacher scored (4-1). Grunberg singled through the left side as Loughman reached home and the Roadrunners led 5-1.
 
In the bottom of the sixth, UTSA secured the game with a grand slam. Lauren Coerver singled to center field and Boring reach on an error. Marena Estell singled through the right side as runners advanced. With bases loaded, Loughman hit a home run to left center first her grand slam of the season.
 
Clarissa Hernandez improved to 2-1 on the season, pitching all six inning with three strikeouts and only allowed two hits.
