SAN ANTONIO — UTSA Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox on Monday announced that the program has signed distance standout Chante Dixon to a National Letter of Intent. The Benoni, South Africa, native will join the Roadrunners for the upcoming 2021 track & field season.
Dixon has excelled at the distance events in her native country, winning back-to-back provincial titles in the 3,000 meters and finishing as runner-up in the South Africa Cross Country Championships in 2018. She owns personal bests of 4:39.55 in the 1,500m, 10:04.06 in the 3,000m, 18:46 in the 5,000m and 38:42 in the 10,000m. Her 1,500m and 3,000m PRs came in the same event, the 2019 South African U18 Championships, where she finished sixth and fourth, respectively.
"We're thrilled to announce that we have signed Chante Dixon," Fox said. "She is an accomplished distance runner who has gained a multitude of international experience. We feel that she will have an immediate impact on our program once she joins us for the 2021 season."
Also a standout in the duathlon, a competition that combines running and cycling, Dixon won the South Africa Championship in 2018 and finished 11th in the junior women's division at the 2019 Pontevedra ITU Duathlon World Championships.
