Roadrunners add Estonian national champion to signing class

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox on Friday announced that the program has signed Johanna Soover, a national champion in multiple events in her native Estonia, to a National Letter of Intent. She will join the Roadrunners for the upcoming 2021 track & field season.

A native of Tallinn, Soover has won four U20 national titles in 2020. She claimed Estonia's indoor crowns in the long jump with a leap of 5.69 meters (18-8) and triple jump with a mark of 12.44m (40-9.75). Outdoors, she skipped to a 12.79m (41-11.5) measurement to win the triple jump and scored 4,573 points to capture the heptathlon championship.

Additionally, Soover secured a silver medal in the triple jump with a mark of 12.72m (41-8.75) and a bronze in the heptathlon with 4,774 points at the 2020 U20 Baltic Championships.

"We are really excited about adding Johanna Soover to our signing class," Fox said. "She's an outstanding athlete with a wealth of international experience on the European circuit who has really excelled in the long and triple jumps. She's going to be a fantastic addition to our program and we can't wait for her to get here for the 2021 season."

Soover boasts personal bests of 5.91 meters (19-4.75) in the long jump, 12.79m (41-11.5) in the triple jump, 1.65m (5-5) in the high jump and 4,774 points in the heptathlon.

Soover is the second signee in UTSA's current class, joining South African distance standout Chante Dixon.
