Yukich leads Roadrunners on Saturday at J. Fred Duckett Twilight

HOUSTON — Alanah Yukich recorded the second-fastest time in program history in the women's 400-meter hurdles to highlight action for the UTSA track & field teams on Saturday at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight at Wendel D. Ley Track.

Yukich was the top collegiate finisher in the 400m hurdles with a personal-best time of 57.57 seconds, crossing second overall behind unattached competitor Deonca Bookman, who clocked a 56.56. The Perth, Australia, native bettered her previous PR of 58.70 posted in winning the UTSA Invitational on March 20. That outdoor debut broke the school record of 59.76 set by Valicia Henderson in 1992, and now stands second by just three-hundredths of a second behind Faith Roberson's UTSA-record 57.54 logged at the Texas Relays on March 27.

Roberson was fifth among collegiate competitors in that race with a 1:00.98 clocking.

Andrew Pirog placed fifth overall and fourth among collegians in the men's 400m hurdles with a 52.00 clocking, which stands as the second-best time of the season for the senior from San Antonio Reagan High School behind his 51.84 from the UTSA Invitational last month.

A pair of distance runners turned in top-six finishes on Saturday evening.

Fresh off back-to-back wins in the 1,500m, Abby Balli finished seventh overall and sixth among collegians in the 5,000m with a time of 18:06.30.

Meanwhile, Sofia Salinas clocked a 2:16.60, just .13 seconds shy of her PR, for sixth place in the 800m.

In the field, Maia Campbell and Lacee Barnes finished 5-6 in the women's shot put. Campbell, the school record-holder from Converse Judson High School, posted a mark of 14.83 meters (48-8), with Barnes just behind her with a measurement of 14.60m (47-10.75).

Barnes also logged an eighth-place throw of 41.02m (134-7) in the discus, an event in which she holds the UTSA and Cayman Islands national records, while Campbell was 10th in the hammer with a 50.61m (166-0) throw.

UTSA took up three of the top eight places in the women's long jump. Sigrid Kleive leaped to a distance of 6.07m (19-11) for fifth, while Amaya Scott was one spot behind with a mark of 5.96m (19-6.75). Maren Wilms claimed eighth with a jump of 5.81m (19-0.75).

In the men's shot put, Jorge Ayala was seventh among collegians with a mark of 15.61m (51-2.75), while Angel Robles was one place behind with a 15.26m (50-0.75) effort.

The Roadrunners will be back in action next Saturday, May 1, when they travel to College Station for the Alumni Muster.
