SAN ANTONIO - Former South Alabama three-year letter winner Patricia Martins has been added as an assistant coach for UTSA women's tennis, announced by head coach Ki Kroll.
The Lisbon, Portugal native joins the UTSA coaching staff after working as a graduate assistant coach for her alma mater, South Alabama, during the 2019 and 2021 seasons.
"I'm very excited to be welcoming Patricia into our Roadrunner Family," Kroll said. "Her commitment to tennis, strong playing experience and passion for coaching makes her the perfect fit for us. I look forward to all she will bring to our program."
After redshirting the 2015-16 season, Martins played two seasons for the Jaguars, winning 52 matches, spending a majority of the 2017 season in the No. 1 position in doubles for South Alabama.
Martins was named Second Team all-Sun Belt Conference with partner Laura Valkova, the only Jaguar duo to go undefeated against conference teams during the 2016 season. She secured South Alabama's Sun Belt semifinal victory over Georgia State after defeating Anatasia Grosheva.
Winning all 10 of her singles victories in the 2017 season consecutively, Martins posted a 3-1 conference record before finishing the 2018 season fifth in school history for win percentage in the No. 1 position and sixth in career dual win percentage with .800.
As a graduate assistant coach during the 2021 Jaguars' season, Martins helped assist South Alabama in the Sun Belt Championships seeded at No. 1 for the tournament. In her years of assisting, the team featured Sun Belt Conference No. 1 ranked duo Otoha Aoki and Aina Domingo-Bernabeu and Sun Belt Women's Tennis Player of the Year Yu Fujioka.
Martins graduated with a degree in sport management after making Jaguar history as the third women's tennis student athlete to earn all-district honors and was voted to the CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District 4 Women's At-Large Team. She was a five time South Alabama President's List recipient and two-time member of the Sun Belt Commissioner's List.
