UTSA kicks off Drury Hotels Invitational with Lamar

SAN ANTONIO – Following the team's first loss in five games, the Roadrunners (4-2) look to get back to their winning ways as they play host to the Drury Hotels Invitational at Park West Athletics Complex. The Drury Hotels Invitational will see four games take place between five teams. The four other schools competing are: Arkansas (2-2), Eastern Washington (1-4), Houston Baptist (0-5) and Lamar (2-3).
 
The tournament starts Friday evening, as Arkansas faces Eastern Washington at 5 p.m. Following the match, UTSA will takes on Lamar at 7:30. The final two matches will take place on Sunday. Action will begin at 11 a.m. as Arkansas meets Lamar. The last match of the invite will kick off at 2 p.m. with the Roadrunners facing Houston Baptist.
 
UTSA's two games, vs. Lamar and vs. Houston Baptist, will be streamed on CUSA TV.
 
The Roadrunners enter the tournament coming off their first loss in five games, as they dropped their previous match against unbeaten Texas Tech, 0-3, last Sunday. The Red Raiders controlled the tempo for most of the game. The Roadrunners allowed one goal in the first half in the 30th minute, and two in the second at the 65th and 70th minute mark. All three Red Raider goals were scored following a corner kick set.
 
Prior to falling in Lubbock, the Roadrunners defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on September 1st. The match was played in Corpus Christi and resulted in a 1-0 win for UTSA. After a couple near misses on headers in the 31st minute, Kendall Kloza converted on a corner-kick header to break the seal and scored what proved to be the game-winner. Junior goalkeeper Jil Schneider continued her stellar play as she saved two shots and earned her third clean sheet of the season.
 
The Roadrunners have a goal differential of 9-6 on the season. UTSA is averaging 1.5 goals per game and is shooting 46% of their total shots on net. The Roadrunners are averaging 10.5 shots per game.
 
Schneider has saved 23 shots and posts a 1 goals against average. UTSA has seen six different players score through six games this season. Ellis Patterson, Kloza and Anna Sutter lead the way with two goals scored a piece. Sarina Russ, Isa Hernandez and Jordyn Hyland each have scored one goal this season. Alissa Stewart and Patterson lead the squad with two assists on the year and four other Roadrunners have an assist to their name. Patterson leads the team in points scored with six.
 
Lamar enters the game on Friday with a goal differential of 13-11 and a 2-3 record, dropping some early season games against strong non-conference opponents in Oklahoma, Alabama and Houston. The Cardinals are led offensively by Isela Ramirez who has four goals to go along with two assists on the year for a total of 10 points. The Cardinals have played two goalkeepers this season. In Vivienne Carr's two appearances, she has amassed 90 minutes of play time and has yet to allow a goal. The other Cardinal goalie is Nicole Panis. She's played 360 minutes on the year and has saved 28 shots.
 
This will mark the ninth meeting between UTSA and Lamar, with the Roadrunners owning a 5-2-1 advantage in the series. The last time the two squads met in 2018, Lamar won 4-3 in OT.
