Recapping a Historic Season

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA soccer program concluded their most successful season in program history earlier this semester, finishing with a 10-5-4 record. The 10 wins marked the second-most all-time in the program's 16-year history, while the .632 winning percentage was the highest ever.

The Roadrunners finished 3-2-3 in Conference USA play, defeating league and in-state powers Rice and North Texas along the way. The performance resulted in the program's highest all-time finish in Conference USA standings.

The success in conference play resulted in UTSA earning its first-ever Conference USA Tournament berth. There, the Roadrunners defeated North Texas for the second time this season, winning 1-0 in double overtime. The Roadrunners then fell in the quarterfinals to the eventual tournament champion Old Dominion 1-0 in overtime.

Since Coach Derek Pittman and his staff arrived in 2018, the direction of the program has been on a steady rise. In just four seasons, Pittman's staff has helped turn a three-win program in 2017 to a 10-win program which earned its first ever C-USA Tournament berth in 2021. During his tenure, Pittman and his staff have achieved the highest winning percentage of any coaching staff in UTSA's soccer history.

Coach Pittman on the team's season
"It was an incredible, historic season for our team, staff and everyone involved within our program. The progress and upward trajectory of our UTSA soccer program is exciting to be a part of and I am grateful to work with a group of high character, high achieving coaches and players. We can't wait to get back to work and continue building on these accomplishments for further future success. We will celebrate these achievements but we aren't satisfied. Our coaches and players are hungry for more in the coming years."
