DALLAS – The UTSA women's tennis team was upended 7-0 by SMU in their Spring 2022 season opener Sunday afternoon at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex.
"We competed really well at four of the five matches," head coach Ki Kroll said. "We came up short at the end of the third sets on lines 1, 2 and 5. Overall, there are a lot of positives to take and a lot to still work on. We are looking forward to our first home match next weekend against ACU."
SMU claimed the first point, winning the doubles point at No. 1 and No. 2.
The Mustangs locked in the win with victories in singles at No. 2, 3, 4 and 5, respectively. Aleksandra Zlatarova forced her opponent to a third set (6-2, 2-6, 7-5) at No. 1. Jasmin Starr, at No. 2, claimed the first set 6-2 before being topped 6-2, 6-4 by her opponent. Eva Beyebach claimed the first set of her matchup 7-5 at No. 5 before being defeated by her opponent in the final two sets (6-3) and pushing for a tie-breaking final set (12-10).
The Roadrunners will open their 2022 home slate with a faceoff against the ACU Wildcats on Jan. 22 at 2 p.m. at the UTSA Tennis Center.
