AUSTIN, Texas — The UTSA men's 4x100-meter relay claimed a gold medal for the second straight week, headlining Friday action at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
The quartet of Dennis Phillips, Jose Garcia, Diego Pettorossi and Trevion McCalla passed the baton around the oval in 39.95 seconds to win the University/College Division ahead of Little Rock (40.30). It marked the second consecutive sub-40-second clocking for the crew, which broke school and meet records with a 39.34 at last week's UTSA Invitational.
Those four Roadrunners also competed in the 100m on Friday. Pettorossi, a transfer from Angelo State, placed eighth in the U/C Division with a wind-aided time of 10.36, while Phillips, a TCU transfer, clocked a 10.59 for 47th. Garcia, a freshman from Harlingen, crossed in 10.45 to finish 22nd in the A section with McCalla, a freshman from Atascocita High School and the reigning C-USA Track Athlete of the Week, was right behind in 23rd in 10.46.
Fresh off a first-team All-America performance at the NCAA Indoor two weeks ago, Jemuel Miller finished fourth in the A section of the triple jump. The freshman from Barbados skipped to a mark of 15.95 meters (52-4) to place just ahead of USC's Jalyn Jackson (15.72m).
In the women's A section, All-American Danielle Spence broke the sand at a distance of 12.66m (41-6.5) to earn 10th place.
Grant Szalek posted a seventh-place finish in the B section of the triple jump with a 15.23m (49-11.75) measurement, while Oreoluwa Adamson claimed seventh in the B section of the women's long jump with a leap of 5.91m (19-4.75).
Back on the track, Bashiru Abdullahi sped to a time of 13.97 despite a slight headwind to cross eighth in the men's 110m hurdles.
Alanah Yukich posted a ninth-place finish in the women's 400m hurdles final with a time of 1:00.60 one day after clocking a 58.46 in the prelims
In other action, Thennelle Williams finished 10th in the women's U/C 100m with a wind-aided time of 11.74 in her first race at that distance as a Roadrunner.
The Texas Relays will wrap up on Saturday and Longhorn Network will provide television coverage beginning at noon.
