UTSA to compete in The Bear Brawl on Monday

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men's golf team will compete in The Bear Brawl, a four-team match-play event hosted by Baylor on Monday at Ridgewood Country Club.

The Roadrunners will face Texas State in the morning match-play round with a lineup of Christian Fanfelle, Hunter Bott, Michael Rome, Jack Wehman and David Harrison. The winner will play the winner of the contest between Abilene Christian and Baylor, while the losing teams will also face each other in the afternoon for third place.

No live scoring will be available for the event, which was recently added to help make up for lost competition days for all competing teams.

UTSA is coming off a seventh-place finish at the rain-shortened All-American Intercollegiate last week at the Golf Club of Houston. Bott logged his third top-five finish of the season, tying for fifth with a 1-under-par 143 (72-71), while Fanfelle and Rome tied for 43rd (151).

Fanfelle leads the Roadrunners with a 72.3 stroke average and he also has a trio of top-10 finishes. Rome ranks second with a 73.13 average and a pair of top 10s, including co-medalist honors at the Lone Star Invitational. Bott stands third at 73.52 and has placed in the top 20 four times, including sharing medalist honors with Rome at the Lone Star Invitational.
