SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA softball team dropped a 5-3 decision to Texas State in a midweek matchup Wednesday evening at Roadrunner Field.
The Bobcats were on the board early with two runs from three hits in the top of the first.
The Roadrunners took the lead in the third. Ciarra Mata and Kaitlyn Morado opened with back-to-back walks. With one out, Camryn Robillard earned a walk to load the bases. On a wild pitch, runners advanced and Mata scored to put UTSA on the board (2-1). Emily Dear reached on an error as Morado and Robillard scored to lead 3-2. A strikeout ended the inning.
In the fourth, Texas State added two more runs from a double and two singles to regain the lead (4-3).
The Bobcats tacked on one more run in the seventh to clinch the win.
Three UTSA pitchers made appearances with Jamie Gilbert getting the start, pitching two innings with a strikeout. Tatum Seith came in for two innings and had one strikeouts as well. Alexa Williams closed out the final three innings with three strikeouts.
The Roadrunners return to the field this weekend for a three-game series at LA Tech.
