Roadrunners fall short in comeback to Lady Techsters

RUSTON, La. – LA Tech recorded a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth to clinch game one of the series 4-3 Friday evening.
 
In the bottom of the first, the Lady Techsters loaded the bases with two outs on the board, but a foul out ended the inning and kept them from scoring.
 
Both teams went three up, three down in the second from defensive plays as the game remained scoreless.
 
The game continued to remain scoreless as UTSA and LA Tech left runners on through the fifth.
 
In the bottom of the six, the Lady Techsters hit a grand slam to get on the board and lead 4-0.
 
The Roadrunners made a comeback in the top of the seventh. Katlyn Morado opened with a double to center field to reach scoring position. Erykah Guerrero was hit by a pitch to put two runners on. With one out, Ciarra Mat reached on a fielder's choice as Morado reached third and Guerrero was tagged out at second. Kat Ibarra singled to left field as Morado scored to put UTSA on the board (4-1). Camryn Robillard followed with a single to left as runners advanced to load the bases. Riley Grunberg singled to center as Ibarra and  Mata scored to make it a one-run game. A ground out to second ended the inning and the game.
 
Jamie Gilbert pitched all six innings with four strikeouts.
 
UTSA recorded five hits on the day.
 
The Roadrunners and the Lady Techsters return to the field tomorrow at 2 p.m.
