Nissa Sam-Grant joins 2022 signing class

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA women's basketball head coach Karen Aston announced the signing of transfer Nissa Sam-Grant.

"I am super excited about adding Nissa Sam-Grant to our 2022-23 Roadrunner team," Aston said. "Our staff has loved getting to know her and her family. She has such a solid foundation as a person and student-athlete and I look forward to strengthening our relationship with them.
From a basketball perspective, I think her ceiling is very high and I look forward to seeing the growth that will occur from her on the court. Nissa fits our style perfectly.  She is an active defender that runs the floor well, can score around the rim and will add some much needed depth at the post position. I can't wait to get her on campus and start to incorporate her into our system. I know I sound repetitive, but we have been very intentional about the quality of the young women we have added to our roster and Nissa is a perfect piece to our puzzle."

Sam-Grant comes to the Alamo City after spending the last season at Panola College and the previous two seasons at Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

With the Golden Lions, Sam-Grant averaged 2.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game where she led the team in blocks and finished in the top four in the SWAC as a freshman.

"Nissa is an incredible teammate and was a joy to go to work with every day," Panola College head coach Alex Furr said. "She takes pride in everything that she does and is always eager to learn more. As far as basketball goes, she is long, lean and runs the floor like a true Roadrunner. Her best basketball days are ahead and I am thrilled she will be led by Coach Aston and her staff. I am excited to see what the future holds for her as a Roadrunner!"

With the Ponies, the Toronto, Canada native, averaged 4.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game.

Sam-Grant is the eighth signee for Aston in the 2022 class.
