Torres reaps 14th singles win in loss at No. 39 VCU

Richmond, VA. – Freshman Tiago Torres (Lisbon, Portugal) earns his 14th singles win of the season, but No. 39 VCU gained their 7th straight victory over the Roadrunners, posting a 4-1 win on Sunday morning at the Thalhimer Tennis Center.

Torres reaped a 6-1, 6-3 win over Maxence Bertimon on court 2. Torres now holds a 14-4 record in singles. Sebastian Rodriguez (Trujillo, Peru) put up a fight against No. 119 Inigo Torre Martin on court 3 but fell 7-5, 6-1.

"Tough loss today." Head coach Sergey Avdeyev said. "I give credit to VCU, they played well in all 6 spots. There was a high level of competition, and I am happy that our guys showed up, but we just couldn't finish. This was good preparation for our next home match and for the conference tournament."

UTSA (10-10) will be back in action on Saturday as they face Rice for their last home match of the season.
