FAU claims series with seventh-inning comeback

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic made a seventh-inning comeback and force the game to extra innings as it won 11-10 over UTSA in game two of the series.
 
The Owls were on the board early with a single run in the bottom of the first from a double and a single to lead 1-0.
 
FAU tacked on another run in the bottom of the second to lead 2-0.
 
The Roadrunners got on the board in the third. With one out, Riley Grunberg and Marena Estell earned back-to-back walks. Emily Dear reached on a fielder's choice as Grunberg was tagged out at third. Erykah Guerrero stepped up and knocked the ball over the left center wall to score Estell and Dear as the Roadrunners gained the lead, 3-2.
 
UTSA added two more runs in the fourth. With one out, Ciarra Mata singled up the middle. Camryn Robillard singled to left center as Mata reached third. With two outs, Grunberg doubled to left field as runners advanced and Mata scored to lead 4-2. Estell followed with a single up the middle to score Robillard and extend the lead to three, 5-2. Estell recorded two strikeouts and a flyout ended the frame.
 
Guerrero hit her second home run of the game with a solo homer in the top of the fifth as the Roadrunners led 6-2. Roadrunner defense kept the Owls from scoring as they went three up, three down.
 
In the sixth, Grunberg doubled to the left field wall to reach scoring position with one out on the board. Emily Dear singled to the pitcher as Grunberg advanced to third. While Guerrero was at bat, Grunberg scored on a passed ball to lead 7-2. In the bottom of the frame, FAU scored one run to bridge the gap back to four, 7-3.
 
Ciarra Mata earned a walk with two outs in the top of the seventh. Ibarra followed with a walk and Robillard hit a bomb over the left field wall as the Roadrunners led 10-3. In the bottom of the frame, the Owls scored seven runs on six hits to tie the game 10-10.
 
In the bottom of the eighth, FAU recorded three hits to score the game-winning run.
 
Marena Estell started the game, pitching five innings, before Tatum Seith came in for one. Alexa Williams made an appearance before Estell came back in for another 1.1 innings. Jamie Gilbert pitched the final 0.1 inning.
 
UTSA recorded seven total strikeouts and 11 hits on the day.
 
The Roadrunners and the Owls wrap up the series tomorrow at 12 p.m. CT.
