Roadrunners wrap up spring schedule with 4-1-1 mark

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA soccer won four of six matches in the spring practice season, including wins over Texas State, UIW, St. Mary's [Texas] and Texas A&M-International.

The Roadrunners went 4-1-1 during the six-match spring schedule.

"The past several months has been really good for our players," UTSA head coach Derek Pittman said. "Not only have we solidified our coaching staff with the tremendous addition of Ashley Holland, our players have taken some big positive steps forward. We were able to develop both individually and as a team with our technical ability and team tactics this spring. We know who we are as a team and our aim is always to continue getting better at what we do and what makes us special. The opponents we played allowed us to do just that. We were able to get some players into games that hadn't seen much time last fall and we were tested in different ways tactically versus the opponents we matched up with on the field. Our players are more determined than ever to continue improving and competing at the highest level. They all have a championship mindset and we are looking forward to the fall season being here soon."

UTSA opened the spring schedule with a 2-2 tie at Houston, getting two early goals in the first 30 minutes while playing a large portion of the roster the remaining 60 minutes.

The Roadrunners then posted a 4-2 win over UIW in a neutral-site meeting at San Antonio Soccer Central that saw the full roster see action.

UTSA posted a doubleheader win on its alumni weekend, including a 2-1 win over St. Mary's and a 1-0 win over Texas A&M-International.

UTSA also earned a 4-1 win over Texas State to conclude its spring home schedule, getting a pair of goals from Jordyn Hyland, with Kiran Singh and Lexi Bolton each chipping in tallies, and Anna Sutter, Alissa Stewart, Kendall Kloza, Sarina Russ and Singh earning assists.

The Roadrunners fell in their spring finale at Texas on April 24, with the Longhorns completing their spring schedule 5-0-0.

UTSA will open its 2022 season in August, which will include a new-look Conference USA schedule that features league schools in Charlotte, FIU, Florida Atlantic, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee, North Texas, Rice, UAB, UTEP and WKU.
