Towner tabbed to lead UTSA men’s basketball & baseball strength & conditioning

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA men's basketball and baseball has tabbed Randy Towner as its new strength & conditioning coach, it was announced.

"Randy is a perfect fit for our program," UTSA men's basketball head coach Steve Henson said. "He brings great knowledge and experience of sports performance in our sport with experience working with basketball at Utah, Utah Valley and UAB. His energy is infectious and he will be able to have an immediate positive impact on our student-athletes as we work to put them in position to achieve their goals."

Towner will work directly with UTSA's men's basketball and baseball programs.

"I am thrilled to join the staff at UTSA," Towner said. "The opportunity to work with such a strong sports performance staff, led by Ryan Filo, while working with the coaching staff of the men's basketball and baseball program is a great honor. I'm eager to get to know our student-athletes and find ways to help them achieve their goals."

Towner joins the Roadrunners after spending the previous three seasons as the director of sports performance for Utah women's basketball. Towner previously served as the assistant director of athletics performance at UAB, working with women's tennis and women's basketball.

He spent two seasons as the head strength and conditioning coach at Utah Valley, working with men's basketball from 2016-18.

Towner, a graduate from Utah in 2016, started as an intern with the Utes, working with men's and women's basketball, softball, swimming and diving, and volleyball from 2013-16.

He earned his bachelor's in exercise and sports science and collected a master's degree in sports conditioning and performance from Southern Utah.

Towner is a certified strength and conditioning specialist by the NSCA (National Strength & Conditioning Association) and is also a specialist in functional range conditioning movement, performance enhancement and corrective exercise by the NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine).

Towner and his wife Kailtynn have a daughter, 10-month old Harper.
