Roadrunners Shut Out Texas A&M-Commerce to Remain Undefeated

COMMERCE, Texas – In its first road match of the 2022 campaign, UTSA soccer returns home with its third straight shutout, defeating Texas A&M-Commerce by a final score of 2-0 on Thursday night.

Through the first 45 minutes of action, the Roadrunners and Lions played a fairly even game. UTSA fired off four shots, while Texas A&M-Commerce countered with three of their own. The difference between the squads through the first half was the shots on target percentage as three of the Roadrunners four shots were on target, an impressive .750 precision rate.

The Roadrunners capitalized on a corner kick opportunity early as Kiran Singh took the corner kick, Kendall Kloza headed it towards the net and Sasjah Dade put it away to give UTSA a 1-0 advantage just three minutes into the match. This is Dade's first goal of the season and second in the defender's career as a Roadrunner.

Coming into the second half, the game seemed to move at a more intense pace, though the stats don't show that. The Lions applied a lot of pressure on the Roadrunner defense but UTSA held strong in their defensive third of the pitch to keep Texas A&M-Commerce to a single shot in the second half.

UTSA were granted a handful of opportunities through the second 45, as they earned five corner kicks and fired off five shots but were unable to capitalize on those chances. A miscommunication between the Lions backline and goalkeeper caused an own goal which gave UTSA a 2-0 advantage with just under six minutes left in the match.

The Roadrunners held on to their advantage through the rest of the match to notch their third shutout in a row in a 2-0 victory over Texas A&M-Commerce.

UTSA outshot Texas A&M-Commerce by nine shots (three on target) to four shots (one on goal). The Roadrunners also earned eight corner kicks to the Lions' four.

The Roadrunners improve to a 2-0-1 record on the season, while the Lions fall to a 0-3-0 record. UTSA has not lost a regular season match since Sept. 24, 2021 (1-0 loss to UTEP).
