SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA soccer team returns home to host Big-12 member Kansas State on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. (CT) at Park West Athletic Complex and will be streamed on CUSA.tv.
The Roadrunners are coming off their third straight shutout after a 2-0 victory over Texas A&M-Commerce on the road on Thursday night. Just three minutes into the match, the Roadrunners were awarded a corner kick and capitalized on the opportunity. Kiran Singh took the corner kick, setting it up perfectly in the box for Kendall Kloza to head it before Sasjah Dade put it away to give UTSA an early 1-0 advantage.
UTSA had many more opportunities in the second half as they earned five corner kicks and fired off five shots, but it was an own goal by Texas A&M-Commerce in the 85th minute that led the Roadrunners to a 2-0 win.
Not only are the Roadrunners undefeated through the first 270 minutes of action this season, their regular season undefeated streak dates back to Sept. 24 of last season (1-0 loss to UTEP). Since then, the team has not lost a regular season match. UTSA holds a 2-0-1 record to start the season.
LEADING THE ROADRUNNERS
10 different Roadrunners have contributed points through the first three matches, proving that offensive power can come from any position on this talented squad. Kiran Singh leads UTSA with five points, including a goal and three assists. Three more Roadrunners have earned four points apiece – Alissa Stewart (two goals), Abby Kassal (one goal, two assists), and Anna Sutter (one goal, two assists).
Conference USA Preseason Team member Sutter is second in the conference for most shots with 10 on the season. Kassal is right behind her tied for third with nine shots, including three on goal. Singh is tied for first in the C-USA with three assists.
The defensive line of Sasjah Dade, Deja Sandoval, Kendall Kloza and Sabrina Hillyer have played intergral roles in the Roadrunners recording three consecutive shutouts to start the season, accouting for 926 minutes combined.
Mia Krusinski and Jil Schneider have each played 135 minutes in goal as Krusinski has notched two saves and Schneider has notched three saves. Krusinski and Schneider are two of three goalkeepers in the conference to not allow a goal this season.
SERIES HISTORY
This match will be the first time the Roadrunners and Wildcats have faced each other.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Kansas State holds a 1-1-1 record, after picking up its first win of the season in defeating UTRGV by 1-0. The Wildcats opened their season with a 2-1 loss to Northwestern on Aug. 18, before a 1-1 draw with Northern Colorado on Aug. 21.
Adah Anderson leads the Wildcats with 10 shots (three on goal), a goal and two assists for four points. Goalkeepers Rachel Harris and Alaina Werremeyer have combined for 12 saves, while allowing three goals. After a 6-10-2 season in 2021 in which the Wildcats finished a single game short of their first Big 12 Tournament in program history, Kansas State was picked to finish 10th, last in the Big-12 in its preseason coaches' poll.
UP NEXT: The Roadrunners hit the road again for their first trip to Florida of the season. The squad will face Stetson in Deland, Fla., on Sept. 1 at 6 p.m., before heading to Tampa, Fla., to face South Florida on Sept. 4 at 11 a.m.
