UTSA men’s tennis team ready for fall season

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men's tennis program is set to compete in seven events this fall, including its own Jauer Roadrunner Invitational which will be hosted by UTSA from September 23 to the 25th.

The tennis program enters the 2022 fall campaign coming off a season that saw the Roadrunners make the Conference USA semifinals and achieve its highest team ranking ever (56) during the 2022 spring season.

The Roadrunners return eight of their 10 players from last year's team and will be adding Alan Magadan into the fold as their sole newcomer. Magadan comes from Tyler Junior College, playing just one season with the Apaches. He participated in the ATP 250 tennis tournament in Los Cabos, Mexico. He has also claimed a spot on the top 130 International Tennis Federation. Furthermore, Magadan trained with ranked No.1 tennis player in the world, Novak Djokovic and former professional tennis player, Janko Tipsarevic. Magadan's highest Universal Tennis Rating is 12.95.

UTSA's fall schedule consists of seven events, the first of which takes place over the Sept. 9-11 weekend. The Roadrunners will have one more competition, the ULL Hidden Dual, on the road before returning to San Antonio to host the Jauer Roadrunner Invitational.

The Roadrunner Invite is an ITA-sanctioned tournament that will feature 13 total teams. Besides the Roadrunners, Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Miami, SMU, Rice, Abilene Christian, UTRGV, TAMUCC, UIW and Oral Roberts will also be competing. The Roadrunner Invite will take place from Sept. 23-25.

When asked about the home event, head coach Sergey Avdeyev said, "we are so excited about the teams that will be competing in our tournament. It is only our second year running this event and we are already beginning to see great success with it. We would like to thank our sponsors Jauer Family Gulf Tex Energy and the Bush ACE outreach program for their support. We hope to grow this tournament into a premier national level event and we believe with the local support from the community we can reach our goal."

After the Jauer Roadrunner Invitational, UTSA will then compete in two straight ITA competitions. The first of which is the ITA All-Americans which takes place from Oct. 1-9 and the second is the ITA Texas Regionals from Oct. 13-17.

After those two ITA events, UTSA will head to Rice for the Rice Fall Challenge before wrapping up the fall schedule with one last ITA event, the ITA Fall Nationals (Nov. 2-6).
