SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA soccer team opens up a three-match homestand as they host Stephen F. Austin on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. (CT) at Park West Athletics Complex.
After suffering their first loss of the season, the Roadrunners are looking to bounce back as they play three straight matches at home within a seven-day span. Before their 1-0 loss to South Florida on Sept. 5, UTSA had started the season undefeated. The team now sits at a 4-1-1 record, still atop the Conference USA standings.
UTSA is coming off its first loss of the season as they fell 1-0 to South Florida on Sept. 5. The Roadrunners held the Bulls scoreless through the first 86 minutes, but USF had the upper hand with a late 87th minute goal. Kendall Kloza and Lexi Bolton led the team with a shot on goal each.
LEADING THE ROADRUNNERS
UTSA has allowed only two goals through the first six matches of the season, the least allowed through the first six matches in program history. Goalkeepers Mia Krusinski and Jil Schneider have split time in goal, as Krusinski has recorded five saves in 225 minutes and Schneider has notched four saves in 315 minutes. In the conference, the Roadrunners have allowed the least goals this season with only two goals allowed.
The Roadrunners are ranked No. 7 in the United Soccer Coaches' South Region rankings, announced the organization on Tuesday. The team is also second in the Conference USA with 110 shots and 45 points. Nationally, UTSA ranks in the top-25 in three different categories, including 17th in assists per game (2.83), 15th in goals-against average (.333) and 19th in total assists (17).
Anna Sutter and Kiran Singh each lead the team with eight points each. Singh has recorded 13 shots (four on target), two goals and four assists, while Sutter has recorded 13 shots (six on goal), three goals and two assists.
Sasjah Dade was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week last week on Aug. 30. Although she is a defender by trade, Dade has contributed greatly on offense as she has six points consisting of three goals.
The defensive line of Dade, Deja Sandoval, Kloza and Sabrina Hillyer have played integral roles in the Roadrunners only allowing two goals and recording four shutouts through the first six matches, accounting for 1,887 minutes combined.
SERIES HISTORY
Stephen F. Austin holds the 6-2-3 advantage in the all-time series. The teams last played each other on Aug. 24, 2017, as the Roadrunners fell to the Ladyjacks, 2-1, at Park West. Then-freshman Isa Hernandez is the only current Roadrunner that saw action in that match and she played 59 minutes.
SCOUTING THE LADYJACKS
Stephen F. Austin holds a 1-4-1 record after a 5-0 loss to Oklahoma State on Thursday night. The Ladyjacks were chosen to finish third in the Western Athletic Conference, according to the conference preseason coaches poll. Colleen Feagins was named to the preseason all-conference team.
Lily Hargrove leads the Ladyjacks with eight shots (six on target) and two goals for four points. Goalkeepers Lydia Sattler and Koral Hughes have combined for 38 saves, while allowing 18 goals in their first six matches.
UP NEXT: The Roadrunners and Park West Athletics Complex will see plenty more action in the next week. UTSA opens up conference action at home as they host Rice on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m., then hosting another conference match against Charlotte on Sept. 18 at 1 p.m.
