CHOUDRANT, La. — David Harrison fired a 1-under-par 71 to lead the UTSA men's golf team on the second day of the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate on Monday at Squire Creek Golf Club (par 72/7,105 yards).
One day after posting a collegiate-best score of 68, Harrison recorded six birdies to help the Roadrunners turn in a 4-over 292 and settle into eighth place at 7-under par, only one shot out of tie for sixth between Houston and North Texas. UTSA is one shot ahead of Troy, four in front of South Alabama and five better than SMU in the 23-team field.
A product of Byron Nelson High School in Trophy Club, Texas, Harrison sits in a tie for eighth place in the individual at 5-under 139 through 36 holes. Teeing off from No. 10 to start his day, Harrison bounced back from a pair of bogeys through the first three holes with birdies on Nos. 14 and 17 en route to a 38 on that side. He then wrote down four birdies against only one bogey on the front side in posting a 3-under 33. He is only four shots off the pace of 9-under set by Southern Miss' Thongipat Rattanayanon and Missouri State's Max Kreikemeier.
Christian Fanfelle posted an even-par 72 on Monday and is tied for 19th at 3-under 141. The senior from San Antonio turned in three birdies in his second round to give him seven for the week.
Hunter Bott is tied for 41st at 1-under 143 (68-75), Jack Wehman has a share of 68th at 2-over 146 (72-74) and Patrick Kahanek is in 99th (76-75—151) to round out the UTSA lineup.
Southern Miss moved into the team lead at 22-under, four strokes in front of LSU and seven better than Middle Tennessee. ULM (-13) and host Louisiana Tech (-12) round out the top five of the team standings.
The final round is scheduled for Tuesday and the Roadrunners will tee off from No. 1 beginning at 8:50 a.m.
