SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women's golf team will open the fall season on Tuesday-Wednesday, Sept. 20-21, at the "Mo" Morial Invitational hosted by Texas A&M at Traditions Club in Bryan-College Station.
The Roadrunners will compete against Charlotte, Florida, Houston, Kansas, Kansas State, Miami (Fla.), North Carolina, North Texas, SMU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas State and Texas Tech in the two-day, 54-hole event. The field will play 36 holes on Tuesday and the final round is set for Wednesday.
The Roadrunners are starting their sixth season under head coach Summer Batiste, a two-time Conference USA Coach of the Year. They welcome back three veterans from last year's team that advanced to an NCAA Regional for the fourth straight time.
Led by a top-five individual showing from San Antonio native Camryn Carreon, UTSA finished sixth at the Franklin Regional to register the program's top NCAA postseason team finish. Carreon, a first-team All-Conference USA performer, fired a 5-under-par 211 to place fourth in the regional and become the first Roadrunner to advance to the national championship round. She posted a 73.89 stroke average, which is tied for the fourth-best mark in school history, while playing in a program-record 36 rounds in 2021-22.
Hunter Nugent also returns after earning third-team all-conference accolades last season. The Canadian registered a 75.42 scoring average and a pair of top-10 finishes, and she also matched the school standard for low round with a 6-under-par 66 and turned in two 67s in 2021-22.
Morgan Ellison is back after appearing in three tournaments and logging a 77.0 average in her first season, while freshmen Daniela Abonca, Lauren Rios and Olivia Williams are making their debuts this fall.
