BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Morgan Ellison finished in the top 20 individuals to lead the UTSA women's golf team to 11th place at the season-opening "Mo" Morial Invitational, which wrapped up on Tuesday at Traditions Club (par 72/6,406 yards).
A sophomore from Peachtree City, Georgia, Ellison tied for 19th place to record the best finish of her young collegiate career and lead the Roadrunners in the first of five tournaments this fall. After opening with a 2-under-par 70 followed by a 75 on Tuesday, she carded a 74 that featured three of her team-high seven birdies this week. She recorded a two on the par-3 seventh hole for the third consecutive round and also birdied Nos. 1 and 12 during her final round to notch her top finish as a Roadrunner, three spots better than a tie for 22nd at last season's Texas State Invitational.
Camryn Carreon was the next highest-placing Roadrunner, settling into a tie for 46th with a 227. The San Antonio native opened with a 77-74—151 on Tuesday and closed with a 76 that was headlined by birdies on Nos. 2 and 15 on Wednesday.
Making their UTSA debuts, Daniela Abonce and Olivia Williams finished in a tie for 53rd with identical scores of 74-73-82—229, while Lauren Rios was 73rd with a 241 (76-79-86).
UTSA registered a 903 (294-295-314) to finish 11th, one shot ahead of Kansas State, 21 strokes in front of Charlotte and 23 better than Texas State.
Texas A&M (853) came from behind to claim the team title ahead of Texas (857), North Carolina (860), Florida (863) and Texas Tech (871) in the 14-team field.
North Carolina's Kayla Smith won the individual crown with a 9-under 207 (70-69-68).
The Roadrunners have a short break before they return to the course on Saturday-Monday, Sept. 24-26, at the Schooner Fall Classic in Norman, Oklahoma.
