Magadan and Rodriguez prep for semifinals after making UTSA history

WACO, Texas – UTSA men's tennis doubles team of Sebastian Rodriguez and Alan Magadan are set to face off with the No. 12 doubles team in the country, Baylor's Jake Finn Bass and Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi, at 1:30 p.m. today in the ITA Texas Regionals.

Eight different Roadrunners began competition in the ITA Texas Regionals last Thursday and two still stand as the duo of Rodriguez and Magadan have advanced to the semifinal round in the strongest region in the country. It is the furthest any UTSA doubles team has ever gone in regional competition.

Rodriguez and Magadan began their doubles action with a bye in the round of 64 before downing Isaac Arevalo and Franco Ribero of Texas Tech (87-73) on Friday morning. The two were then next up at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, against Dylan Heap and Yasha Zemel of Rice. Rodriguez and Magadan made short work of the fellow C-USA pairing, winning 8-4. The win over Rice pushed Rodriguez and Magadan into the quarterfinals where they faced off with the No. 24 doubles team in the country from Texas A&M. Rodriguez and Magadan defeated Noah Schachter and Trey Hilderbrand 8-4 on Sunday morning to advance.
