SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA soccer team earned an important 1-0 win over WKU on Sunday afternoon at Park West Athletics Complex to clinch a spot in the Conference USA tournament.
The Roadrunners outshot the Lady Toppers by 11 shots (four on target) to five shots (two on goal), but WKU led UTSA with six corner kicks by one corner. The Lady Toppers had a slight possession advantage with 51 percent advantage through 90 minutes of play. Anna Sutter and Lexi Bolton each led the Roadrunners with two shots. Sasjah Dade scored her fourth goal of the season, the lone goal of the match.
Through the first 45 minutes of the match, the Roadrunners fired off seven shots while keeping the Lady Toppers to just a pair of shots. The very first shot of the match resulted in a score as Sasjah Dade knocked the ball in, off an assist by Kendall Kloza, in the eight minute to give the Roadrunners a 1-0 advantage. UTSA recorded six more shots, while WKU countered with two shots, before the half ended. The Roadrunners held a 51 percent possession advantage over the Lady Toppers through the first half, carrying their 1-0 lead to the half.
In the second half, UTSA notched four shots and WKU fired off three to counter. Coming off the bench to start the second half, Lexi Bolton fired off two shots in the first handful of minutes, including one on target. Of the Lady Toppers' three second-half shots, two of them were on target but UTSA goalkeeper Mia Krusinski made a couple outstanding saves to keep WKU off the board and lead the Roadrunners to an important 1-0 win to overtake the Lady Toppers in the Conference USA standings.
UTSA's record improves to at 8-5-4 overall (3-3-3 in C-USA action), while WKU's overall record falls to 6-8-3 (3-5-1 in C-USA). With the win, the Roadrunners overtake the Lady Toppers, jumping up to sixth place with 12 points while WKU drops to seventh place with 10 points. The top eight teams at the conclusion of the regular season make it into the Conference USA Tournament.
