SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA track & field teams will compete in three different meets this Friday-Saturday, Jan. 20-21, on the second weekend of indoor-season action.
Six Roadrunners will travel to Flagstaff, Arizona, for the Lumberjack Team Challenge hosted by Northern Arizona. Sigrid Kleive, Joel McFarlane, Marilis Remmel, Jack Turner, Maren Wilms and Justin Wright will line up on Friday at the J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome. Meanwhile, a contingent of more than 30 Roadrunners will make the trip east along I-10 to Houston for the Robert Platt Invitational on Friday at Yeoman Fieldhouse. Live results can be found at live.flashresultstexas.com and complete meet information is online at uhcougars.com.
Nearly two dozen UTSA student-athletes are slated to travel to New Mexico for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational on Saturday at the Albuquerque Convention Center. UTSA opened the 2023 campaign last Friday at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational. The Roadrunners won four events and tallied 12 total podium finishes in Houston.
Oreoluwa Adamson leaped 6.10 meters (20-0.25) on her first trip down the runway to claim top honors in the women's long jump, while All-American Christiaan Le Roux made it a UTSA sweep of the event and the Conference USA Indoor Field Athlete of the Week awards with a winning jump of 7.54m (24-9) on the men's side.
Amaya King struck gold in the women's shot put with a 13.52m (44-4.25) measurement and All-American Jemuel Miller collected his seventh win as a Roadrunner after skipping to a distance of 15.42m (50-7.25) to finish first in the men's triple jump.
Other top-three finishers on the men's side included Mike Roth in the 200 meters (2nd/21.61) and 400m (49.30/2nd), Bashiru Abdullahi in the 60m hurdles (2nd/7.87) and Gabriel Binion in the long jump (3rd/7.47m).
The women also had four additional medalists, as Lauren Roy was second in the 200m (24.32), Alanah Yukich secured silver in the 400m (55.80), Ingeborg Gruenwald was runner-up in the long jump (6.10m) and the 4x400m relay team of Yukich, Wilms, Marie Duvigneau and Mackenzie Grimes placed third (3:53.80).
