ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Jemuel Miller won the triple jump for the second straight week to headline action for the UTSA track & field teams on Saturday at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Miller skipped to a distance of 15.73 meters (51-7.25) to remain undefeated in his specialty event this season. The sophomore All-American from Barbados finished just ahead of New Mexico's Stacey Brown Jr., who posted a mark of 15.72m (51-7), in earning the eighth victory of his collegiate career.
Miller's win was one of nine total top-three finishes for the Roadrunners, who wrapped up a busy weekend that saw them also compete at a pair of meets on Friday.
UTSA flexed its muscle in the horizontal jumps, as All-American Ingeborg Gruenwald and Oreoluwa Adamson collected a pair of medals on Saturday.
Gruenwald leaped to a season-best distance of 6.18m (20-3.5) to secure silver in the women's long jump, while Adamson grabbed bronze in the triple jump with a career best 12.65m (41-6) measurement. Adamson, a native of England, also finished fourth in the long jump with a 6.07m (19-11) effort, while Gruenwald, who hails from Austria, measured 11.71m (38-5) for ninth in the triple.
Another UTSA All-American was in action on Saturday, as Bashiru Abdullahi locked up third place in the 60-meter hurdles after cruising to a 7.82 clocking, just behind a pair of hurdlers from USC.
UTSA's sprinters turned in several personal bests on the track.
In the men's 60m, Brice Chabot clocked a 6.75 in the prelims to advance to the final and move into a share of the No. 2 spot on the program's all-time performers list. Dennis Phillips placed seventh with a 6.76, good for third on UTSA's all-time list along with Trevion McCalla, who posted a 6.76 in the prelims but did not make it through to the final. Chabot was close behind in eighth in 6.82.
Later in the day, Phillips moved into second on the all-time chart with a 21.10 clocking in the 200m to finish 10th overall and eighth among collegians.
In one of the first races of the day, Mike Roth finished first in the unseeded men's 200m. The sophomore from Canada circled the oval in a time of 21.26, moving him into the No. 3 spot on UTSA's all-time performers list.
He then returned to the track to post a 47.26 for a ninth-place showing in the 400m, making him the No. 3 all-time performer in school history.
Lauren Roy made it a sweep of the unseeded 200m, as the sophomore transfer posted the top time out of 13 sections with a 24.16 clocking. That time improved her previous season best of 24.32 posted last week in her UTSA debut, and it keeps her third on the program's all-time performers chart.
Roy, who hails from Northern Ireland, also vaulted into the third spot on the all-time performers list in the 60m after clocking a 7.48 to place sixth.
In the unseeded women's 400m, Ibiso David-West finished second with a 57.81 clocking, while Noah Rhodes and Logan Masters finished 2-3 on the men's side with times of 49.18 and 49.34, respectively.
Rhodes and Masters teamed up with Phillips and Roth for a fifth-place and season-best time of 3:13.64 in the 4x400m relay to cap the day for the men.
Meanwhile, David-West joined Marie Duvigneau, Mackenzie Grimes and Alanah Yukich for a season best 3:50.16 to place seventh in the women's 4x4.
The Roadrunners will be back in action next Friday, Jan. 27, at the Houston Invitational.
