PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — Christian Fanfelle is tied for 12th place and the UTSA men's golf team is in 11th after the opening day of the Sea Best Invitational on Monday at TPC Sawgrass Dye's Valley (par 70/6,790 yards).
Fanfelle fired a 1-over 141 on the 36-hole day of the Roadrunners' spring season opener to put him in a five-way deadlock for 12th, five shots off the pace set by Florida's Giovanni Manzoni, who posted a 4-under 136 (69-67).
Fanfelle registered a pair of birdies in the first round on his way to turning in a 1-over-par 71. The super senior from San Antonio came back in the afternoon and wrote down four birdies, including three straight on Nos 1-3, en route to logging an even-par 70.
Behind Fanfelle, UTSA is in 11th place in the team standings. The Roadrunners opened with a 304 before bouncing back with a 289 in the second round to end up one shot ahead of Campbell and only one stroke behind College of Charleston for 10th place.
David Harrison and Jack Wehman are part of a tie for 49th place at 10-over 150. Harrison, a senior from Trophy Club, carded a 77 in the morning before posting a 73 in the afternoon. Wehman, a sophomore out of Austin, rebounded from a 79 with a 71 in the afternoon on the strength of 17 pars.
Hunter Bott is in 62nd after carding a 77-75—152, and Brayden Bare is tied for 74th (82-76—158).
No. 9 Florida leads the team race at 5-under 555, followed by No. 42 North Florida (+1), No. 40 Liberty (+11), No. 44 Louisville (+16) and host Jacksonville (+16) in the top five.
The final round Is slated to tee off at 7 a.m. CT on Tuesday.
