ARLINGTON, Texas – UTSA opened its Dallas-centric weekend with a victory at UT Arlington, winning the dual 4-3.
The Roadrunners (2-3) claimed its second straight doubles point of the season, winning two of the three matches to take an early 1-0 lead. From there, UTSA split the singles action to earn the 4-3 decision. UT Arlington (2-2) rallied after an early 1-0 deficit to tie the competition up at three and forced a decisive match between Alan Magadan and Santiago Giamichelle.
Doubles
Saturday's action began with doubles competition where UTSA took two of the three matchups, earning a 1-0 lead. The first matchup featured UTSA's Jackson Ross/Garrett Skelly against Santiago Giamichelle/Dante Teramo of UT Arlington. Ross and Skelly put the Roadrunners on the board, taking down UTA's duo, 6-3. The second doubles match to finish featured the Roadrunners pair Tomás Pinho/Tiago Torres going up against the Mavericks Solano Caffarena/Anton Shepp. UT Arlington was able to secure the duo victory, 6-2, and force the third and final set to be the deicing factor. The final match featured UTSA's nationally ranked pair of Sebastian Rodriguez/Alan Magadan against UTA's Lachlan Robertson/Joan Torres Espinosa. Rodriguez and Magadan lived up to their #8 national billing, downing UTA, 6-3, and securing the doubles point for the Roadrunners as they went up 1-0.
Singles
Following doubles action, the six singles matchups began. The two teams would split the results down the middle, each winning three, giving the Roadrunners the edge as they won the dual 4-3. Ross (1-4) was the first Roadrunner to compete, falling to Robertson (UTA), 6-2, 7-6. Next up was Torres (1-4) who drew Shepp. UTA's Shepp was able to hold off Torres, winning (6-1, 2-6, 6-2) in three sets and putting the Mavericks up 2-1. The third match to finish featured Danijal Muminovic (1-4) against Torres Espinosa from UTA. Muminovic won the first set, but fell in two straight (4-6, 6-4, 6-1) as the Mavericks took a 3-1 lead in the dual. The Roadrunners needed to sweep the remaining three matches to claim victory and that's exactly what they did. Pinho (2-3) earned a decisive 7-6, 6-3 win over UTSA's Teramo while Rodriguez (3-2) earned a two-set win over Caffarena (7-5, 7-6). It all came down to Magadan and his matchup with Giamichelle. The two traded sets, as Giamichelle took set one and Magadan took set two. In the third and final set, Magadan was able to secure the victory and gave the Roadrunners their first road win of the season (2-6, 7-6, 6-4).

UTSA will return to action on Sunday, Feb. 12, when it competes in its second dual over a two-day span. The Roadrunners will stay in the Dallas area, heading to the campus of SMU (5-3) for a matchup with the Mustangs. Sunday's competition is set to begin at 9 a.m.
