UTSA earns second straight C-USA win, sweeping WKU by 7-0

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's tennis completed its second straight Conference USA win, sweeping WKU by 7-0 on Monday afternoon at UTSA Tennis Center. 
 
"Solid win today against a tough Western Kentucky team," head coach Ki Kroll said. "I'm very proud of our ladies. They fought hard on every court. Next stop… Charleston. Birds Up!"
 
The Roadrunners earned the doubles points with consecutive wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 courts. Aleksandra Zlatarova and Magda Tuells opened doubles action with a 6-2 win over WKU's Paola Cortez/Sayda Hernandez at the top spot. 
 
Then, Fatima Gutierrez and Alexandra Weir defeated the Lady Toppers' duo of Samantha Martinez/Mariana Zegada by 6-4 at the second court to secure UTSA the doubles point and 1-0 lead. 
 
The Roadrunners began singles action with a win at the second court by Gutierrez as she defeated the Toppers' Hernandez by set scores of 6-2 and 6-2. Weir followed that with UTSA's third point as she defeated Rachel Hermanova by 6-4 and 6-2 at the No. 3 court. At the top spot, Zlatarova secured the winning point as she defeated Cortez by 6-3 and 6-4. 
 
Although UTSA already clinched the win, the Roadrunners and Lady Toppers decided to play out the final three courts. Tuells battled at the fourth court, overcoming WKU's Sofia Blanco by both sets of 7-5. Stanislava Bobrovnikova went to three sets with Zegada, ultimately defeating her by set scores of 7-5, 3-6 and 10-7. 
 
Adeliya Mukhutdinova battled through three sets with Sunskrithi Damera. Mukhutdinova ended up winning with set scores of 4-6, 6-4, 10-8, leading UTSA to a 7-0 sweep of WKU on Monday afternoon. 
 
UTSA's record improves to 10-7 overall, while WKU's record falls to 10-7.   
 
UP NEXT: The Roadrunners take the road next weekend to face two teams in Charleston, S.C., first taking on College of Charleston on March 18 at 9 a.m. CT/10 a.m. PT before facing Charleston Southern on March 19 at 12 p.m. CT/1 p.m PT.
